Us as an Audience

Audience, Viewers, Spectators, Crowds. Theses are all different types of groups of people that observe or watch for instance television, a theatre show, football game. Strange how they all do the same thing, observe. Yet there are different meanings for all. In our last session we used members of the public’s reactions to spark our minds and creativity. We were abstract in the way where at one point we stood in a group outside of the library just staring at a boy in the library who had be observing us like a ‘spectator’. So we observed him as a ‘crowd’. The awkwardness from this boy was interesting as he was so immersed in what we were doing that the minute we were immersed in what he was doing, he wouldn’t look at us and was very still and rigid. You could say that he didn’t want to be watched as he was doing a daily thing or working in the library. Technically you could say that a daily task of just walking, sitting or sleeping shouldn’t really be a show, but in reality the simplest action in a performance can make it all the more interesting. Through our session what personally stood out for me was that we can create our own reality. Anything can be a performance if you have reason and adventure to take it on.
