The power of performance through social media

Earlier in the week I decided to conduct an experiment in the library to see if a reaction could be made from passers by.

Within the library staircase I placed inspirational quotes from influential writers, actors and staff members. Some linked to the idea of grain, the base object for our site piece, and some that would just motivate students in the space, the reactions were absolutely brilliant.

I expected the students to stop and look at the posters within the transient space to brighten their day and feel inspired when in the library, which they did as soon as I place the posters on the walls. Some even stopped to take photographs and hold the memory of the quote within the space. But what I didn’t expect was that the quotes would be passed around by social media.

This shows how important social media is within our modern day society, this has created the idea to use social media with our piece to meet what the library used to be which was an old goods and grains warehouse, with the social hub we now know as the library.

We think this could be an exciting concept to explore and plan to test this theory out in our next visit to the library.
