a faculty by which the body perceives an external stimulus; one of the faculties of sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch.
“How do you feel?”, a phrase, like our senses, which gets taken for granted on a daily basis due to our daily routines, but why have we become immune to such phrases? We all know of our five senses of touch, taste, smell, sight and hearing, we use these to our advantages to follow basic human instinct to survive and get us from day to day. If we cannot sense, we cannot function. Through last Thursday’s lesson I found that we take our senses for granted too much to the point we become unaware of them because of how much we have relied upon them, throughout our years on this planet.
During the lesson we performed an exercise in which we were told to partner up and one person within the duo was encouraged to guide the other who’s eyes were shut through a period of time. Cognitive music was played to create a certain ambiance about the activity. This was so we could feel the space with our senses and become aware of the surrounding area. Personally I felt very tense to begin with, I was putting complete utter trust in my partner to avoid obstacles such as walls and other people, but as soon as I let go of the negative thoughts I let my body drop and let my partner carry the weight. It was in a way calming for me to become open to my senses and heighten my sense of touch, hearing and smell whilst my partner became my eyes to guide me. I felt in a way we both had to heighten our senses in order to become successful in our findings.
Like many people, I think too much about my actions and what my next step is. But sometimes it’s better to just go with the flow and use your senses to become successful in your actions.
