Yes, but is it site specific?

For the first time in our process I can finally say that yes, yes it is.

Our piece is now dependant on our space, for you cannot do it in any other space or location that would give the same impact and relevant reaction. After finding the ‘What is Art‘ article from The Lincolnshire Magazine from 1931 we looked at the emphasis on workmen making parts of something bigger, and using their skill to create a cog in a large machine. From getting our primary research from the local history section of the library we can add it to it being site specific, for example if we put this piece into Nottingham Library it would not have the same historical context as University of Lincoln Library.

Slowing down the audio that was taken from the third floor gave a new look on the third floor, as it began to sound like banging and possibly even steel. Therefore gradually slowing down this one piece of audio down could take the audience back to the steel works, transforming the space around them, throwing them into the history.

STREAM OF CONCIOUS FROM THIRD FLOOR

where can we go if we only can go up if we have a long string that doesn’t connect to each other then what else is there?

if we look at each other as people we can touch then how can we look at each other with admiration and love. something that is sacred and blessed. this is the age of change the age of life. time can never go backwards how can we feel the feelings of the past. we can look into the soul of the air what once was. what once lived and breathed.

what can we see that we can touch what can we hear that is not said what can we smell that is not heard.

what is the place

here now and all over we can see the way that men see. here now we can touch their shadows

From my stream of conciousness I took that though we cannot go backwards we can feel the history in the space, we can touch the same walls that were touched by workman over one hundred years a go and we can represent it in present day performance.  That is what really counts with site specific performance, to be able to capture lives that once were in these walls and spaces, and portray it in the space that we are currently in.
