Upon bringing my SSP to life sometimes cracks start to show as things don’t quite go the way you planned and there just plain harder than expected! For me this happened in multiple areas such as the technicality and the physicality of the performance.
AUDIO– I decided the best way for my audience to hear my sound was through the use of headphones. This would create an intimate atmosphere and immediately make the audience more immersed. But then questions arose such as: How can I facilitate a vast amount of people not only to somehow tune in to my audio track, but also how to make sure its during the right moment so it links perfectly with my performance? How can I promote this correctly so people will know WHAT/WHERE/WHEN/HOW? So, to overcome this hurdle I am currently thinking of creating a Facebook page that I can use to promote, inform and be my tune in format for the audio track. Here I really killed 2 birds with one stone as I can now ensure my Performance can be done technically meanwhile still advertising it.
Matching Movement with Audio– So as we know imagination is a beautiful thing, yet putting them into action can prove… difficult. As I am only using recorded sounds provided from the library to fill my audio track I need to begin to work more physically creating ways of matching my body with sounds. Ways of moving fluently around the space with meaning and purpose. As this isn’t a contemporary dance piece this maybe prove a a big challenge trying to create synergy between the two.
Location Awareness – Today I explored around the space I’m going to use for my performance and this already allowed me to begin my questioning. Firstly, there is lots of furniture in the room, can I move it? Will this break the library’s code of conduct? Secondly, where In the room will I start and finish my performance? Will I perform a full cycle? Will enough passers by notice me? My next step is contacting the library to see my guidelines to analyse my special awareness. This well then allow me to begin to create my final SSP with knowing all surrounding and options for movement.
