To accommodate for the University’s 12,800 students the Library offers around 230,000 books available, along 4.3 miles of shelving, to be used for subject research. Throughout the Library’s 3 floors there are, in total, 450 study spaces available. The 3rd floor, also known as the silent floor, still features the old pine beams which remain from the history of the building when it was previously a Goods and Grain warehouse. However, despite looking historic, the Library has been modernised through the technology which has been installed. Along with the array of books available, there are now 5,000 ebooks available and students have access to 440 computers. The majority of book loans are now self service, which shows the Library and it’s multimedia platform. Despite the advance in technology, the Library still loans around 90,000 hard copy books along with around 1.3 million e-book uses.
